Collocations

Collocations, typically multi-word units such as "high society", but also subject-verb and verb-object linkages such as "tension .. mounts" and "run ... the risk", are central component of corpus linguistic investigations even though there is no strict definition of a collocation. Collocations are important because they are frequent and some people believe that collocations are the basic units of language from a usage (rather than analytical) perspective.
